Moon Township - Residential Backyard Area
Apple Lawn Service was approached in June of 2011 by a client that wanted to make their backyard more homeowner friendly. In addition to rehabilitating the rear yard another variable was introduced into the projects work parameters - The homeowners have two large dogs that utilize the back yard area. Therefore our design ideas had to incorporate the homeowners needs for a usable backyard while making it pet friendly. The first problem was the inability of the existing turf to flourish with the pets and drainage issues caused by the hillside and the accompanying deteriorating timber wall. After careful considerations we proposed removal of the deteriorating retaining wall, the rehabilitation of the existing patio and the installation of a stone walkway surrounding by large decorative rocks (mulch wasn't an option since one of their pets liked to ingest mulch on occasions). To solve the turf problem we suggested the installation of synthetic pet turf in the pet area...
The deteriorating timber wall was replaced with a Keystone segmented retaining wall with steps to access the upper lawn area. The lower area was rehabilitated with a synthetic turf area in conjunction with a decorative stone bed with walking stones producing the perfect environment for both pets and their owners...

Sewickley Public Library Project
In the fall of 2003, the Sewickley Public Library approached Apple Lawn Service requesting a solution to an ongoing problem at the facility. The Library has a section of grass located between the existing sidewalk and the roadway that houses the parking meters for usage of the local patrons. This area receives a high amount of foot traffic causing the existing grass area to become a muddy mess. Working with the Library's Director Apple Lawn Service recommended that the grass area be removed and replaced with a permanent solution: brick pavers. Apple Lawn Service performed this project in the Spring of 2004 with outstanding results. Below are some of the before and after photos of the project.

Economy Residential Retaining Wall Project
A deteriorating timber retaining wall caused an Economy resident to contact Apple Lawn Service for ideas pertaining to their problem. Several ideas were put forth with the one finally selected being a segmented retaining wall system by Keystone that would be incorporated into the existing concrete walkway and steps. The old timber wall was removed and the new tri-faced Keystone blocks being installed. A planter area was also incorporated into the new structure to give the overall project a more balanced look.

Moon Township Residential Garden Project
Apple Lawn Service was approached by a Moon Township resident that wanted to dress up his backyard area. The area that required extensive rehabilitation was just an overgrown grassy area that had no definition or design. After reviewing the project with the client a garden and walkway was selected by the client to replace the existing area. Apple Lawn Service designed and installed a year round colorful garden area that is now enjoyed by the customer from Spring to Fall seasons.

Moon Township Residential Retaining Wall Project
Once again a deteriorating timber retaining wall had a Moon Township resident contacting Apple Lawn Service for design solutions. Having numerous types of retaining walls located within the closed community he requested something different. I reviewed the clients needs and suggested a Keystone retaining wall system for his particular needs. The deteriorating timber wall was removed and the new tri-planed Keystone blocks were installed. A driveway planting area was also incorporated into a new standalone structure to give the overall project a more balanced look.
